Happy Mother’s Day to my best friend, my biggest champion, my ride or die for life: BARB. Words can’t express the kind of strength and support she has given to me, @mfwstx, and @tmcqueston just in the past six months. Only word that comes to mind is MOM. Making a pilgrimage to my ancestral homeland @sxsw. Ten years ago I had just quit my job and bailed on New York. I was living at home, taking a breather, and searching for a new path. I went to SXSW with a short I produced with @pri.cubed1o_o1 @lilytilton and Bajir Cannon, “The Better Half,” written and directed by the amazing Becca Rodriguez, shot by @yourpalbridget, starring Michael Godere, Jessie Tilton, Maria Di Fazio and Alison Folland. I made hot pink business cards and thought maybe I would “be a producer” ??? We slept four to a hotel room, subsisted on Lone Star and popcorn, saw all the movies, went to all the panels, and danced at all the parties. I cut Bridget’s bangs in the LaQuinta parking lot; I slipped and fell at the Alamo South Lamar in front of everyone and had bloody knees for the rest of the fest. 😎👍 On the way home, @yronlyhope asked us to write up some short reviews for @theplaylistnation, so Bridget and I wrote up some blurbs on the plane. I wrote about OBSERVE & REPORT and some music docs and those were my very first film reviews. That is my origin story! Lessons learned: quit your job, go to film festivals, say yes. Feels good to be back, ATX ❤️
